Job Description

We seek an Architectural Intern who has graduated or will have graduated with a NAAB-accredited architectural degree no earlier than May 1, 2010 and no later than June 30, 2015 for a full-time position in our Virginia Beach, VA office. This candidate will have 1 to 4 years’ experience following graduation and will be expected to perform various architectural design services on multi-discipline building design projects of moderate to large scope.

Specific responsibilities include:
  • Preparing effective marketing, presentation and awards submission materials efficiently
  • Participating in team meetings and coordinating efforts with other team members
  • Preparing documents for programming, schematic design, design development, bidding and construction
  • Performing various duties associated with the bidding process, including preparing addenda and amendments and opening and tabulating bids
  • Performing various services associated with the construction phase, including field visits, answering RFIs, reviewing shop drawings/submittals, and preparing record drawings
  • Complying with departmental and corporate quality control policies and procedures including project schedules, budgets, and applicable codes and regulations
  • Participating in design reviews
  • Working with, responding to, and taking direction from senior architects and project managers
  • Working with and taking direction from departmental and corporate leadership
  • Actively pursuing professional licensure/registration
  • Actively participating in continuing education, mentoring and IDP programs

Selection Process

Selection will primarily be based on a portfolio competition. To participate, you must follow our 2-step process:

1. Complete and submit our on-line application. Do NOT attach your portfolio to this application (our server system cannot process it). Please DO attach a copy of your resume to the application.

2. Prepare and electronically submit your portfolio. Once we receive your completed application, we will send you an email describing our portfolio requirements and the email address you must use to submit your portfolio. The portfolio should feature your capabilities relative to design, graphic clarity and presentation skills.

Applications and Portfolios will be accepted February 20, 2015 through 5:00 pm on March 13, 2015. Portfolios must be submitted electronically and must comply with the email instructions we send to you. We will NOT accept or consider hard copy portfolios.

Eligibility
  • This is a full-time position.
  • This position is not available to Licensed Architects.
  • To be eligible, applicants must have earned a NAAB - accredited First Professional degree (B-ARCH or M-ARCH) no earlier than May 1, 2010 but no later than June 30, 2015. Students who will not graduate before June 30, 2015 are not eligible but should instead access our website for position openings for Architectural Summer Intern.

The ideal candidate will:
  • Present an organized application, resume and portfolio
  • Possess excellent graphic communication skills; prepare and develop effective images and presentations efficiently
  • Possess excellent written communication skills; prepare effective and concise documents
  • Possess strong verbal communication skills; be comfortable with and able to make presentations to a variety of groups up to and including large public meetings
  • Have completed one or more internships
  • Have obtained/initiated the pursuit of LEED AP credentials
