Job Description

We seek to hire a Senior Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) Analyst to work in our Virginia Beach, VA office.  This position acts as a technical leader for the GIS Department responsible for performing and directing GIS duties on stand-alone GIS and multi-discipline projects as directed by the GIS Department Director.
 
General responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Develop strategies for GIS applications and spatial solutions
  • Configure and support GIS Desktop and cloud applications
  • Develop reports of geodatabase spatial queries
  • Develop GIS presentations
  • Lead the analyses of GIS project requirements
  • Document GIS product procedures
  • Troubleshoot GIS application problems
  • Maintain accurate and concise records of GIS data
  • Coordinate with the GIS Field Operations Manager to develop the Global Positioning System (GPS) data collection and processing methodologies
  • Perform Remote Server and Virtual Machines tasks
  • Working with, responding to, and taking direction from GIS Department Director
  • Assist in business development, marketing, and representing the Clark Nexsen GIS Department
  • Participate in training, mentoring and monitoring the professional development of GIS Technicians and Analysts
  • Direct the GIS technical team if the GIS Department Director is unavailable
  • Assist in preparing project fee proposals and scope clarification documents
  • Assist in resource and project scheduling
  • Assist in strategizing and updating the GIS Business Plan 
Project responsibilities include:
  • Oversee the implementation plans to adhere to project budget and schedule
  • Develop GIS technical project-specific Action Plans and Project Work Plans
  • Perform Quality Assurance/Quality Control for data as a technical reviewer
  • Build and manage geometric validation rules
  • Provide support for field data collection 
Essential Abilities include but are not limited to the following:
  • Travel an average of 10% of the time
  • Work may involve times outside normal working hours and on weekends
  • Work outdoors with varying terrain and all types of weather
  • Stand and walk for 8 to 10 hours a day when performing field work
  • Be able to lift 25 lbs 
Education
  • Degree from an accredited 4-year program in Geography, GIS, Urban Planning, Computer Science, or Engineering; or
  • Degree from an accredited 4-year program in another discipline paired with a GIS certification program from an accredited institution.A minimum of 16 credit hours in the GIS certification program.
  • Additional consideration will be given for a postgraduate degree in a related science. 
Licenses, Certifications, and Accreditations
  • Geographic Information Systems Professional (GISP) Certificate issued by GISCI is required.
  • ESRI Technical Certifications may be given additional consideration.
  • Certifications with other related GIS programs such as a remote sensing and Hexagon Geospatial may be given additional consideration. 
Software Skills

Proficient in the use of the following software programs:
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook)
  • ESRI ArcGIS for Desktop with extensions - 3D Analyst & Spatial Analyst
  • ERDAS IMAGINE
  • Database development and management
  • Pictometry for ArcGIS POL
  • GPS Software, e.g. Trimble, Topcon, and Carlson.
  • Google Earth Professional
  • Adobe Acrobat 
Knowledgeable in the use of the following software programs:
  • ArcGIS Specialized Extensions (Arc Photo & Arc Hydro)
  • ESRI ArcGIS Server configuration and maintenance
  • GIS software development and programming
  • TerraGo Publisher
  • ArcGIS Data Reviewer
  • Autodesk AutoCAD and Civil3D
  • Bentley Microstation 
Career Experience

A minimum of 10 years of professional experience working with a GIS system and Data Management system; or a minimum of 8 years of professional experience working with a GIS system and Data Management system if candidate has a postgraduate degree in a related science.
 
Must have technical marketing experience; developing industry specific demonstrations and technical presentations; helping to drive product requirements and participating in testing efforts; attend and support corporate and industry events such as trade shows and user conferences; and develop marketing material for industry-specific needs including screen shots, videos, maps, and demos.
 
Must possess a high level of understanding of GIS software and functions with advanced knowledge of coordinate systems and conversion requirements; an understanding of geodatabase schemas and editing procedures, and georeferencing protocols.
 
In addition, must have a high level of understanding project management concepts such as, but not limited to scope, schedule, planning, invoicing, budgeting, and client maintenance.
 
Project Experience

Must have project experience with at least two types of the following clients: federal, state, municipality, and private. 
 
Implementation experience in two or more of the following types of GIS projects:
  • Spatial Data Standards for Facilities, Infrastructure, and Environment (SDSFIE) GeoReadiness or GeoFidelis. U.S. Federal Department of Defense (DOD) project experience is highly preferred.
  • Department of Defense (DOD) (CAFM)
  • Facilities Management, Asset Management, Planning Sector
  • Infrastructure: Energy and Utilities Sectors
