Job Description

We seek to hire a Project Manager - Energy to work within the energy business unit in our Virginia Beach, VA office who will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing activities on single or multi-discipline energy projects.

General Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Leading, motivating, and effectively communicating with the energy project team during scope and project execution
  • Working with the Energy Business Unit Managing Principal (MP) and Energy Design Professionals to develop and present projects to clients, contractors, project team members, AHJ's and members of the public through all stages of the project
  • Coordinating with clients to ensure successful completion of projects that may involve either new construction or renovation
  • Facilitating a professional and successful relationship between client, contractors, and the project team
  • Running project meetings and participating in the management meetings
  • Actively support the Company's marketing and business development activities in the Energy sector
  • Preparing contracts and fee proposals for MP review and participating in contract negotiations
  • Ensuring staff compliance with quality control policies and procedures
  • Developing and managing project planning, budgeting, and critical project objectives
  • Verify project consultants are properly licensed and insured
  • Assemble staff for energy project teams with input and concurrence from MP, Design Director and Department Heads
  • Working with, responding to, and taking direction from Managing Principals and Senior Project Managers
  • Understanding of and experience with energy performance contracting
  • Understanding of and experience with building energy assessments, energy audits, and retro-/re-commissioning
  • Ability to travel is required
Project Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
  • Perform Managing Principal duties as assigned
  • Monitor scope/schedule creep for potential additional services
  • Provide weekly progress reports to the Client
  • Maintain project documentation in electronic files and Newforma
  • Prepare and monitor project budgets and schedules with input from each discipline and consultants
  • Facilitate project team meetings to review project scope, project progress, and schedule issues as well as team coordination, coordination with consultants, and problem solving
  • Review RFI and shop drawing submittal responses for appropriateness and completeness
  • Prepare draft monthly invoices, 12-month invoice projections and monitor accounts receivable
  • Review and approve project related expenses and consultant invoices
  • Assemble and review design “milestone” submittal deliverables and ensure completeness and quality of the submittal
  • Perform project closeout and archiving tasks
  • Schedule QC/QA reviews
  • Schedule and/or conduct periodic site visits during construction
Education
  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in engineering or architecture is preferred
Licenses, Certifications and Accreditations
  • Licensure as a Professional Engineer or Registered Architect is preferred
  • Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) is desirable
  • Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) Certified Energy Manager (CEM) certification is preferred
  • Understanding of sustainable design principles and design practices with LEED AP accreditation is preferred
  • Additional energy certifications such as Certified Energy Auditor and Commissioning Authority (CxA) are encouraged to reflect personal growth in the energy profession
Software Skills

An Energy Project Manager should be able to effectively utilize current company software programs for word processing, e-mail, accounting, and information management.
 
Current programs include:
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Newforma Project Center
  • Planifi Project Analyzer
Working familiarity with design and production software commonly used to execute energy projects to a point of being able to understand the capabilities  and limitations of the programs and interact with the support staff in their use of the software is highly desirable.

Career Experience

A Project Manager - Energy should typically be a licensed professional or have 12 or more years of significant design experience in a leadership role in the areas of the firm's practice and a minimum of five (5) years of direct experience in the energy sector.
